HISTORY & BACKGROUND

The Outer North Community Safety Team  (ONCST) formerly known as the ‘Galliagh Community Safety Taskforce’, is a multi-sectoral community safety team set up in 2001 to help address crime, the fear of crime and anti social behaviour in the area.  The ONCST was designed to utilize a community development, interagency approach in assisting local people and groups to address the causes and problems associated with anti-social behaviour, crime and the fear of crime, which negatively impacts on the health and well being of the community. The work of the ONCST is a central part of an overall strategy for the long-term regeneration and revitalisation of Outer North/ Greater Shantallow/Ballyarnett DEA. Anti Social Behaviour

We all want local young people to have the freedom to enjoy their youth and have fun growing up. Unfortunately, when large groups of young people gather it can cause great upset to people living nearby.

Although most young people don’t realise it, the size of the crowds, the noise and the poor behaviour of a small number of them can cause great annoyance and even fear within the local community.

Outer North Community Safety Team helps to coordinate the responses from local agencies and groups in trying to address this particular problem.
