The existing Pavilion, which was built in 1994 is no longer fit for purpose. Over the past few years Leafair Community Association in partnership with GSAP have been planning the development of a new sport, recreation and leisure facility at Leafair. All tenure, land ownership, statutory approvals and development consents have been agreed.  A comprehensive community consultation was completed in April 2011, designs /plans/elemental costing were completed in June 2011, and a business plan was completed in Jan 2012 (North West Marketing).

LCA submitted a planning application (part funded by DCC) in January 2012 which was secured in 2013, and in 2015 LCA and GSAP in partnership with Derry City and Strabane District Council, secured approximately £1.2 million from the Northern Ireland Executive under the Social Investment Fund.

A new design team Hamilton Architects have been appointed by DC&SDC in late 2016 and contractors where appointed in early 2018 with construction due to be completed by late 2018.

When the pavilion is redeveloped it is envisaged that this 'local facility 'will be utilised for the delivery of health & recreation through sport and education for the Leafair and neighbouring communities within the Outer North area of the city, providing a catalyst for regeneration through community self-help. Within the new facility, we will provide a range of opportunities to promote good health in its broadest sense.

We aim to reduce health inequalities, improve the health of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable sections of the population living within Leafair and surrounding neighbourhoods and give maximum support to local people.

The redevelopment of the existing pavilion into a modern, accessible, community led and sustainable sport and recreation facility will also create fun and sociable ways to improve wellbeing, fitness and the quality of life of residents of all ages and abilities from children to the elderly.

In addition, the new modern and accessible changing facilities on the ground floor will not only accommodate the existing and potential new users groups of the existing 3G pitch and full size grass pitch but also accommodate those partaking in indoor physical activities within the new facility.
