“Our City Together - Digital Inclusion Campaign”

Since early May GSAP were made aware and very concerned, that many of our young children living within the Ballyarnett DEA and all areas of the city have not been able to continue their learning, due to the lack of IT equipment and access to broadband within their home.

The local Covid 19 Ballyarnett  DEA Community Support Team and ETHOS Family Support Hub have also been inundated with requests from individuals and families ringing our community helpline, contacting the local ETHOS family Support Hub and contacting the school principals for IT support so their children can access google classroom, online learning resources etc. now and over the summer months.

As a result, GSAP Lead by Pat Carlin 'GSAP Family Connect' Co-ordinator made an appeal to acquire laptops, reconditioned or new for all children and young people in our City who are impacted upon by Digital Poverty.

To date, through support from Ulster University & Santander Universities, Allstate, Save the Children/Panasonic, Lisahally Power Station, Johnny Mc Daid & Sister Deirdre Mullan we have been able to distribute laptops to 33 local schools for distribution to children and young people in need.

10 Schools received laptops in June/July for distribution to identified children/young people in need:

Steelstown PS, St Paul's PS, St Therese PS, St Patrick's PS, Hollybush PS, St Columb's College, St Brigid's PS, Greenhaw PS, Thornhill & St Brigid's College,

'Thank you to Pat, Ciara and all the team in GSAP for your support over the months during the COVID pandemic. We appreciate the digital support network. The equipment has benefitted the family immensely. You indeed are making a difference'

Siobhan Gillen. Principal of Steelstown PS.

'Thanks to GSAP we have been able to help a very grateful wee boy in P6 who was unable to keep up with online learning because his elder sister also needed the only device they had at home for her Post Primary work. His mum met me in the playground just yesterday to report that he has been so dedicated to his online studies as a result of this amazing support. She is over the moon about the support from GSAP and we feel the laptop couldn't have gone to a better home. Thank you so much!

Gareth Blackerly, Principal St Paul's PS
