Culture, Arts and Heritage are intrinsic parts of community life. They are recognised for their capacity to enhance community wellbeing, foster community identity, influence economic prosperity and play essential roles in strengthening our communities.
Local Stakeholders (under the guise of the Greater Shantallow Arts and Cultural Committee) with support from the Greater Shantallow Area Partnership initiated an arts and cultural strategic planning process for Greater Shantallow in early 2012.Consultation_Report_Findings_Arts__Culture(ver1).doc
The outcome of that planning process was the development of a new Arts & Culture Strategy and 5 year Action Plan – to promote and enhance the culture and creative diversity of the Greater Shantallow area to the benefit of our citizens, our creative community and our visitors.cultural_strategy_document.pdf
Key to the implementation of this Plan is collaborative working to develop, enrich and exploit the heritage, arts and cultural environment within Greater Shantallow. The Plan acknowledges the importance of investing in our cultural assets so as to create a strong sense of place and belonging, affirm our identity, improve wellbeing, access to learning opportunities and cultural activities for local people and make Greater Shantallow a welcoming and interesting place to visit.
