Today ‘Off the Street Youth Initiative’ officially launch a new mobile youth service that will now see the organisation take its highly successful detached youth services on to the road.

With its new state of the art youth hub transporter it can now bring a range of youth programmes and services to more areas and communities across the Greater Shantallow Area.

The Community HUB is the result of the organisation seeking out unique and novel ways to meet the needs of young people in the area and to help address the lack of youth provision across the area. Employing a mobile youth service, the organisation can be responsive to the needs of young people regardless of where they live. Off the Street is now able to meet young people in any location and to engage them in a variety of youth activities. With meeting space, computers and interactive IT systems the HUB has been equipped to allow its highly skilled youth leaders to provide a safe space for informal and formal youth support programmes.

The HUB project has been in the planning for several years and has enjoyed the support and funding from a variety of local groups and agencies including local Housing Associations Radius, Northern Ireland Housing Executive and APEX and from the projects main funding body The Big Lottery Fund.

Martin Connolly, Chairperson commented that “I am delighted that after years of effort and fundraising that we are now able to bring our youth HUB to the area. It is a progressive step by the group and shows that we are keen to extend our services and to meet the needs of young people. For over 20 years we have established ourselves as a leading youth provider delivering essential detached youth programmes to ensure that our young people get the necessary support to allow them to develop personally and in doing so contribute towards community cohesion. I want to personally thank the many groups who have funded the project because without them we would not have been able to bring this about, in particular The Big Lottery, Northside Development Trust and the three local housing associations APEX, Radius and NIHE. Their support demonstrates their confidence in the HUB and Off the Street as we move forward in the coming months and years.”
