“Our City Together - Digital Inclusion’ Campaign”

A big thank you to Johnny McDaid for his generosity and support for our Campaign.

The Greater Shantallow Area Partnership (GSAP) was very concerned, that many of the children and young  people, living within all areas of the city, had not been able to continue their learning, due to the lack of IT equipment and access to broadband within the home.

GSAP and many community groups across the Greater Shantallow Area/Ballyarnett DEA had been inundated with requests, from individuals and families, phoning our community helpline, contacting the local ETHOS Family Support Hub and contacting the school principals across the city for IT support, so their children could access google classroom and online learning resources.

We at Greater Shantallow Area Partnership, set up the Digital Inclusion Campaign to acquire Laptops, reconditioned or new for children and young people in our City whose learning has been negatively impacted upon.

GSAP’s Family Connect Co-ordinator ‘Pat Carlin’ who has been leading the campaign spoke to Johnny’s mum Pauline, who herself for many years had taught in St Joseph’s and St Cecilia’s. Her talent, energy and motivation made life better for all her students. Pauline herself was a fantastic role model for young people.

Johnny’s Dad, the late John McDaid Snr had a special link to the Greater Shantallow Area/Outer North area of the city  having been involved  in the Northside Development Trust ,as a Committee Member, working tirelessly with his colleagues on the Board, to help change the lives of so many in our area and gave hope.

Johnny has left us all speechless with his wonderful IT donation to our Digital Inclusion’ campaign wich has enable us to purchase 20 new laptops. His generosity will make the difference to so many young people’s lives and these will be distributed to 20 local school principals for distribution to identified young people in need. Johnny has taken up his family’s mantle of generosity and we offer him a massive thank you for all his help and kindness.

A big thanks to his mum Pauline also, a very special lady for all she did to help this campaign.
